Rome

Are you asking yourself “What to see in Rome?”.

Well, then I am here to help!

Everyone knows I’m deeply in love with Rome, it was my first solo backpacking experience and the unforgettable feeling of freedom and adventure I felt still affects me today.  It is still  one of the top 5 cities I recommend for anyone traveling through Europe for the first time.

There is so much to see and do in Rome it is almost mind blogging. The food in Rome is delicious, and they are dozens of Rome attractions that make people want to travel to Rome Italy.

However, Rome isn’t cheap unless you know how to budget for Italy and know a few Europe Travel Tips. However, to miss this city when traveling through Europe would be to miss an important part of history, sights, and culture in Europe.

What to See in Rome

That are a lots of  sights to explore in Rome. This blog post gives you some insights to things some unique experiences in Rome, and what to see in Rome.

Sunset at the Colosseum

Yes, we all know that the Colosseum is one of the top things to see in Rome, but catching it at sunset takes the experience to a new level.

On a good night, the sunset reflects off the Colosseum, turning it into a smoldering fire.

I suggest watching the sunset here your first night in Rome; it will put you in the right mood for the rest of your trip. Sunset at the Colosseum is also the perfect place to spend an evening with that special someone (for me it was a pint).

The area is practically deserted and after the sunset, the surrounding lights outline this ancient monument, it’s almost as amazing as the sunset.

Sistine Chapel

Another popular tings to do in Rome is the world famous paintings on the roof of the Sistine Chapel. This is one of the must see attractions Rome Italy has to offer.

The Sistine Chapel will leave you breathless; at least I was. I wasn’t expecting the chapel to impress me. After hours of walking through the Vatican Museum, I was ready for a nap, but suddenly all those feeling left me as I stumbled into the chapel and looked at the most beautiful work of art I’d ever seen.

I scratched my head baffled that one man could paint something so stunning. Certain parts seem to stand out, almost 3D.  If you’re in Rome, the Sistine Chapel is a must, and you should clear your schedule so you have plenty of time. There was more I needed to see in Rome but I couldn’t take my eyes off it.

If you are wondering what to see in Rome I highly recommend the Sistine Chapel!

Throw in a coin Trevi Fountain

Trevi Fountain is big. I’d seen pictures and read about books, but it was nothing compared to standing in front of it. It is one of the top things to see in Rome.

Trevi Fountain is a great place to sip your morning coffee, sit back, and people watch. Legend says that if you throw a coin over your left shoulder and into the fountain, that one day you will return to Rome. I threw 3 coins just to make sure.

If you asked me “What to see in Rome that we shouldn’t miss?”.

My answer would be Trevi Fountain.

Il Gelato di San Crispino

Backpacking in Rome

Gelato will make you fat, a fact I found out quickly, but you won’t care at all. The best place to devour this heavenly treat is the world-renowned Gelato di San Crispino.

This ice cream shop is a little hard to find. (I got lost more than once) There so many flavors to choose from, you will find yourself making this a daily trip, or maybe even two or three times a day.

Rome has a lot of variety when it comes to accommodations, and one of  the coolest hostels in Europe. If you are wondering what is a hostel? It is basically a shared hotel where you rent a bed not a room for the fraction on the price.

The food- it would be impossible to talk about Rome, or Italy for that matter, without talking about the food. The bakeries, the pasta, and the mozzarella cheese are my personal favorites, but you have no shortage to choose from.

 Spanish Steps

Rome 2

A lot of travelers and backpackers hang out here at night. Head to the step in the evening to make some friends and talk to fellow travelers.

No matter what adventures you choose to have in Rome, you are bound to have a great time. I couldn’t get enough of the city, and I’m eagerly looking forward to my next visit.
