I don’t usually do clothes reviews on the site. My on the road fashion routine is to buy cheap or used clothes, wear them until they are worn out, and then start the cycle all over again.
Fashion is never a huge priority when living on the road. However, every once and a while I like to get something a little extra, like the time I got some tailored clothes in Hoi An with Backpackerbanter
About a week ago, I got my hands on the Ably hoddie. I wanted this hoodie for a couple of reasons.
1- I am backpacking New Zealand during the winter, so a hoodie seemed like a good idea.
2- Because Ably is making the claim that this hoodie is smell proof.Who doesn’t want to smell wonderful after a three-hour hike? Or a relaxing day 12 hours on an overnight bus.
Let’s face it washing cothes is a huge expense on the road. If my clothes smell great, then I can put off washing them a few extra days which means saving money.
It works by using fabric activated by a new technology called Filium. This fabric repels liquids, odors, and stains.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. This item of clothing resists coffee stains ( a hallmark of almost everything I own). I had to try it.
So for the last week, I have been wearing my hoodie almost non-stop without washing it. (To test it out of course)
In the past week, I have run around the woods playing frisbee golf, lifted weights four times, and spent 3 hours doing cardio. That is enough to make any item of clothing stink.
However, the hoddie smells just like it did when I got it. It still smells brand new.
How does the Ably Hoodie Help Travelers?
First, since it is stain proof clothes will last a lot longer which in turns means saving a lot of money over time.
Another way it helps is that you don’t have to wash your clothes as often. It gets dirty less and resists stains and odors, so the clothes smell fresh for a long time. Less laundry also means more money in your pocket.
Personally, I am going to use this hoodie for a long time. It is nice to have an item of clothing that takes care of itself, and ore importantly one I can spill coffee on and it not be ruined.
